Orange Sky Laundry - Make a difference Mondays

Every Monday for the month of December, Indooroopilly Laundromat will be donating 70% of our sales to support the fabulous service that Orange Sky Laundry is providing those less fortunate. 
Orange Sky Laundry is a mobile Laundromat, for homeless and those in need.  Founded late this year by friends Lucas Patchett and Nicholas Marchesi comprises seven board members with a diverse range of skills and life experiences. They share a common goal of seeing Orange Sky Laundry take to the streets of Australia.  They are run by volunteers and want to harness the energy of 18 - 30 year olds who are keen but struggle to find simple ways to help people in need.   

We love what they do so much, that we wanted to help from one little Laundromat to another.....so every Monday it's your chance to use our Laundromat and 70% of the dollars will go directly to Orange Sky Laundry.

Brisbane Storms - we have power and are Open!

What a wild afternoon yesterday was with that fierce storm.  We know that a lot of areas around us received damage and have lost power.  We hope that everyone is okay?  

Our little pocket of Taringa did not lose power and we are open and ready for dirty laundry.  If necessary we will stay open later tonight, if people need to wash any storm damaged clothes.  

****Remember:  we have power points available to recharge your phones, devices if needed.

Hot days and cool Laundromats

It's not even summer yet and we have felt the sting of hot days and wild storms!  

On the near record breaking 40 degree day last week we worried for those brave souls who came in to do their laundry.  Geoff and I set up an esky with ice and bottled water.  We cranked up our ceiling fan and hoped that 'Laundry Today or Naked Tomorrow' didn't mean heat exhaustion.  It was nice to be able to do a little something special for our lovely customers and regulars.  And made us feel a little less guilty for not being air-conditioned.  

And remember while you wait, the bench outside provides a lovely shady spot with a cool breeze.  


Or pop around the corner to wait and relax in the courtyard gardens.  Grab a coffee, a freshly made juice and just chill out.  And the good thing is, parking is right out front - no humping your laundry basket for ages out in the hot sun.  

Our Laundromat is open till 9pm every night of the year, so you can always delay the dirty laundry till the cool of the evening. 

 

Business of the Month!

Very chuffed to be selected by the Bendigo Bank's Indooroopilly Branch as their 'Business of the Month' for November.  

Our little laundromat will have a display inside the Bank for the whole month.  Thanks to Nyree and Steven from the Branch for putting up this gorgeous display and being so supportive of small local business in Brisbane's western suburbs. 

We can't say enough about how terrific this local Branch is, they are always supporting great charities, fund raising and helping locals.  Pop on down to have a chat to the lovely team, for all your financial needs and queries.  

Or, if your Laundry really is piling up and getting you down....pop on over to us and get it done - washed and dried in around an hour, while you relax and enjoy the FREE WiFi, comfortable modern modular seating, Television, magazines or maybe a great espresso from Abode Cafe.  We really do try to make laundry chores easier.

Give and help the homeless

We love laundromats, we really do.  Heading towards 18 years in our little laundromat at Taringa and we still love it... and looking at other Laundromats around town, the state and the world.  Yes we even checked out Laundromats in the USA, Japan and NZ.  Crazy for lovely laundromats, funky laundromats, modern laundromats even old vintage laundromats.

So when we heard about 'Orange Sky Laundry' we immediately fell in love with the concept.  A service mobile for the homeless to do their washing and drying.  In a specially fitted out van.  Fantastic!  Here are two guys in their 20's creating something for those less fortunate.  Co-founders Lucas Patchett and Nic Marchesi say they hope to achieve three things. 

"Restore respect, raise health standards and reduce strain on resources" 

So, we are aiming to get involved to raise awareness for this great service and hopefully raise some coins too.  Coming soon in our Laundromat will be a way in which you can donate, like a 'suspended coffee - we can start a suspended wash'

RSPCA cupcake day at Abode Cafe

This Wednesday 20th if you are in doing the laundry, keep a few coins in your pocket and some room in your tummy.  Pop around the corner to Abode Cafe and grab some delish cupcakes, to support the RSPCA.  

Now we love the fact that when doing the laundry I can pop around and grab a great coffee....but Abode Cafe seems to be getting in to doing some fun things.  We feel lucky to have them in our Centre and be able to join in events like this.  Plus lucky to have great 'Black Sheep Coffee' available with yummy freshly made food.

Indooroopilly Laundromats Instagram page

After a few years we've finally decided to split my personal Instagram account and start a separate Instagram page for the Laundromat.  I've had so much fun adding quirky photo's of the Laundromat and laundromat related pics....that I suddenly thought hmmmm maybe my personal friends and followers are a bit over Laundromat photos!  lol

Shut the door!

Some times things are easier than you think!  

Shut the door of the Dexter express front loaders.  Watch the video and see how easy and gently it can be done!

** Check no items are hanging out over door seal

Step 1.  Push door in gentle at 3 o'clock position
Step 2   Push door handle down to 6 o'clock position gently - this position will lock the door for the duration of the wash.

How easy can it be!

 How easy can it be?   This easy!!  Using our *express* Dexter Triple Front load washer, you can fit this might big pile of dirty laundry in to one machine!  Our Laundromat offers the best of the best *express* front loaders, faster-cleaner-drier!

Simple step 1 -  Create dirty laundry by having a good time :) 












 
Step 2 - Put all that dirty laundry in one Triple machine


















Step 3 - Make sure you can sit your hand on top of the washing.  This means the machine is filled enough.  Also CHECK that nothing is hanging out as you close the door for it to seal.















 

Step 4 -  Use our fabulous Aussie owned & made Laundry Liquid and Fabric Softener, available FREE to use if you need.  
One to One and a half caps of detergent and One cap of fabric softener is enough!!





Step 5 - Only $8.00  For Hot, Warm or Cold wash!  Insert $1 or $2 coins, select your wash temp and press the green START button.  Easy!




Step 6 - If necessary....go grab a coffee from Abode Cafe.  Or just sit and enjoy what's on Telly or jump online with our FREE WiFi!!

Is EKKA weather come early?

Oh boy Brisbane, feels like Ekka weather has come early!  It's blowing hard and the wind chill factor is high.  BOM says Brisbane feels like 7.8 degrees!!  Inside our Laundromat is warm and particularly toasty if you snuggle up in the seat next to the big dryers.  mmmm   On a day like today not much feels better than the feel of warm, fluffy laundry straight out of the dryers.

After doing the laundry I'm trying to find and do all those other things that make me warm inside and out.  

Here's my list:

A good strong coffee or hot chocolate!
A soft, fluffy blanket.
Some toast with melted cheese.
Sitting in the sun in a little protected corner.
The smell of bread baking (or cookies)
Watching a fireplace (wish I had one today!)

Looking for a Laundromat in Brisbane with FREE WiFi?   Well look no further!  At Indooroopilly Laundromat we provide free wifi for all our customers.  Yup FREE and easy.  

Laundry day is usually dreaded, but we try to make it enjoyable, fast and relaxing.  How easy to fill in time online.  Now our Dexter *Express* Front Load washers are super fast only 20 -23 minutes.....so that's not a lot of time to fill in!  However, if you toss the laundry in our BIG *express* Dexter dryers (that hold 2 - 3 baskets of washing) you can relax for approximately another 24 - 32 minutes!  So, think about how sweet it would be, in under an hour you can have your whole weeks washing done, while you relax and tweet, Facebook, Blog, youtube....or maybe just watch the Telly!

Hello July, you're here already!

July!  Already?  oh my how fast this year is going.  And here we are with the first week of School holidays nearly over!  We hope the kids are having fun, you are coping and finding lots of entertaining things to do.  With this in mind, I thought I would try and list some great suggestions and links to help get you through the second week.

Our personal favourite is New Farm Park and the huge playground area, free grass space and lots of cafe's for Mum and Dad to chillout!!

Remember, you can always get the Laundry done in about an hour in our Express machines.....leaving lots of time to hang out with your kids!
