Cold snap coming Brisbane!

brrrrr.... word is, our warm weather is likely to disappear with a cold snap and rain this weekend!  Time to pull out the woollies, blankets, doona's, jumpers, flannel pj's and get them ready for Winter.  Scoot on down to our Laundry, get them in our BIG Dexter *express* machines.  They are perfect for big fluffy winter items and only take 23 mins to wash.  Here are some old, but great winter tips from our Blog archive:

1. Colder weather, dries out our skin.  Using a gentler product in the wash, that is designed for sensitive skins, this will help the whole family's skin in Winter.  *Remember we offer FREE high quality, ECO, earth friendly, green, sensitive skin friendly detergent and fabric softener.  It's a wonderful Australian made and owned product, that gives terrific results and is much gentler on your skin.

2.  Most of us use way too much detergent – you could probably get away with using as little as a quarter of a cup, REALLY!   An excess of detergent is bad for your clothes and it makes them stiff, it causes a waxy type of build up that will eventually make your towels water repellent and cause skin irritations for those with sensitive skins.  Clothes will come out fluffier and feeling cleaner from the dryers if you use less soap powder/detergent.   A win win - softer blankets and clothes feel so much nicer to snuggle in to.

3.  This cold dry air also can create *static havoc*   So maybe instead of using Fabric Softener try using dryer sheets, they are gauze-like pieces of tissue paper you can pop into the dryer to reduce static electricity. They also add a pleasant fragrance and help to soften your clothes.  Use a lower heat on the dryers too, remove any synthetic items as soon as they feel dry to touch.  If you leave these in too long, they are STATIC creating monsters!

4.   Wool - Always ensure you read the label for specific care instructions, as they may vary.   It is recommended to turn the garment inside out for laundering and to avoid bleaches and harsh detergents, unless they are Woolmark approved.  Use a gentle Woolmark approved detergent.  Put the machine on a maximum of cold (delicate/gentle) cycle wash.  Wool garments can then be tumble dried but ONLY on a low setting heat cycle. Remember always read the label instructions first!

5.  Best results for your Flannel Sheets:  Flannel sheets are best washed in warm water, as opposed to hot water. Some manufacturers even recommend cold water. In any case, this will minimise color fading.  Use Vinegar the first time you wash your flannel sheets, wash them with one-half cup white vinegar. This will help keep pills (balled-up fibers) from forming on your sheets. It will also set the color in the fabric to help resist fading.  For flannel it is best if you avoid Fabric softener.  As it leaves residue behind that stiffen fabric fibers and reduce flannel's softness over time. The buildup from the softener also increases the appearance of pills.  Finally,  best results are to have the dryer on Medium to Low heat and to minimize pilling, remove your sheets from the dryer immediately you check and notice they are dry.  Leaving them in too long will dry and harden the feel and texture.

Hope this helps warm up your winter nights!  Discover how fast and easy our Laundromat is.

Laundromat Love

Been to our Laundromat?   If you have used us, have you been happy?   We love our Laundry and we love feedback.  Geoff has been pottering and improving it for nearly 17 years and our aim is for an enjoyable experience for all our customers?

We often get feedback from customers when we are there cleaning the Laundry.  We love hearing how happy you are, we don't even mind if you tell us if you've ever had any issues/problems.  That gives us a chance to check it out, so it doesn't happen again.

We absolutely love hearing any suggestions for improvements or add ons.  That's where the magazine shelf came from.  It's also where we got the idea for the Telly!  So always feel free to let us know.

So if you LOVE us, like we LOVE you.....it really helps if you spread the *love* online.  It helps others find us in Google searches, it keeps our Blog, Facebook page, website, Twitter account relevant and visable.  And it really helps if you Rate us or Review us.  Tell everyone and us, what you LOVE about Indooroopilly Laundromat at Taringa.

Getting dirty this Easter break?

Are you away enjoying this fabulous weather, camping, fishing, laying on the beach soaking up the last of the warm sun?   Kids getting dirty?  Sleeping bags needs washing?  Beach towels and play clothes need washing?  We hope that your Easter weekend is turning out to be the best fun.   So you can enjoy that time off to the max, let the kids get dirty and not have to worry about the washing piling up.
Relax because our machines can handle sleeping bags, beach towels, blankets, pillows and all that 'dirty' fun Easter laundry.

We are open every day, our usual hours 6.30 am till 9.00 pm.  And our FREE Laundry liquid makes it even easier.  "High quality, skin friendly, eco, Australian made & owned"  Perfect for getting not only the best results...but helping our Planet.

TIPS for washing Sleeping Bags:

  • Sleeping bags are best washed in our BIG Triple or Double Front loaders.  Do not use the Top Loaders as the agitators can tangle, pull and damage your bags.
  • Always check recommendations on the bags Wash Care label.
  • Turn bag inside out for best results.
  • Use ONLY 1/4 or less a cap of detergent.  Too much and the soap will be hard to get out of the feathers, down, synthetic filling and silky exterior.  If you use too much and the detergent hasn't come out.  Put it through a second wash with NO detergent.
  • Our Front Loader *Express* Dexters have an extra fast spin cycle, so most of the water will be spun out of your bag.  If it is still damp, use a dry towel to press out excess water, then you can throw both into the Dryers.
  • To dry your Sleeping Bag - put it in our BIG Dexter dryers on the LOW Heat Setting.
  • Stop Dryer and check the bag after approx 6 minutes to ensure heat is not impacting silky covers or linings.  Fluff your bag out, shake the filling loose and re-start Dryer.
  • Depending on the Level/Standard of Sleeping Bag will determine how long it will take to dry.  However approx 16 mins, should get a lighter sleeping bag dry.
Below is a great Youtube Video about washing & drying your sleeping bags.

Don't drop your undies! Check those bowls.

Laundromats attract all sorts of people, who wear all sorts of underwear.  So remember to check the bowls of your Dexter front loader or Dexter dryer when finished to make sure your undies aren't hiding against the bowl.  You don't want to cause any relationship problems for the next user do you??  Or wonder later where that favourite pair of undies went to!!  Lost socks are a common problem, but you would be surprised at the number of lost undies we find too!!
