Dexter Dryers in and ready to go!!

Here they are.......our latest additions.  Six BIG Dexter double stack dryers.
The lovely new Dexter double stack dryers are in!  Ready to go and hopefully to get you in and out quicker!

If you have any questions on how to use them, please just give us a call.  :)

The six new dryers are also quieter. And hold more than our old dryers.  You can place 2 - 3 standard baskets of washing in one dryer.  They tumble and dry best with at least one basket of clothes in them.

**Note- be VERY careful to not place delicate synthetics, rubber, plastics in the dryers on HIGH or Medium.  Use low heat and check regularly.
To Operate:

Insert either $1.00 or $2.00 coin.  Select the temperature you want from either the upper or lower dryer buttons.  Press the green 'Start' button and off it goes.
It is best to add more coins/time at this time.  That means you will get the full drying time and not be impacted by the last cool down minute.  However you can add more coins/time at any stage.  Just insert the coin and press start on the upper or lower dryer button.

Hot News Flash!!

HOT NEWS!!!

Coming this Thursday, six brand new modern design Dexter Dryers!!

To help us serve you better and faster, we will now have 'six' dryers.

These Dexters have the same big bowls and capacity.  The great news is, that their coin mechanism is simpler and more reliable.

However, on Thursday we will have no dryers available until the new machines are installed.

We apologise for this one day of inconvenience.

thanks for your patience

Karen and Geoff

Saves you time, save you $$

Our Frontloaders only take (approx) 25 minutes!  yep, you can get in and out in such a short time.  And the even better news is... that they save you $$ because they don't require as much washing powder as Top Loader machines.  Double savings all round :)

So if you want to try them and you are using regular Top Loader washing powder, just remember to only put about half of what the box recommends.  Otherwise the high speed revolutions of the Front loaders will cause too much suds.

Did you know?

A study by the University of Manchester found:

*Ironing contributes a lot to the carbon footprint of a textile. Non-iron textiles are actually great for reducing impacts. Do not iron unless you absolutely have to.

*Giving clothes to charity, friends or recycling initiatives also saves up to 40% of the textile carbon footprint?

*Throwing clothes in the bin when you’ve finished with them adds to environmental impacts.

How great is that, an excuse NOT to do the ironing and a great reason to donate your old clothes to Charity!

The right fill level

Tip of the Week!

When using our Top loaders, don't overfill them with clothes - although you may feel you are saving $3 or $4 for another machine...you may find you will end up with clothes still smelly and full of soap powder.  Top Loaders have agitators and these take up room in the machines but are designed to agitate the water *around* your clothes.  If you tightly pack and over fill the machine, the water will not be able to move freely around your clothes to clean and remove stains.  Also if you fill them too high above the water level, these clothes may not even get wet!

One of our empty Top Loaders

Too Full!  (not our machines)
Just right!  (not our machines)
We often find machines overfilled with the clothes poking out above the water level and the soap powder still sitting on top.  It is best to loosely fill these machines, so that the clothes sit below the agitator top and at about the top agitator wing.  This way the water and your soap powder will do it's job.

The only machines that work tightly packed with clothes are our *Dexter* Front Loaders.  They have no agitators and you can pack the clothes firmly to the upper bowl and front bowl.  The higher revolution of the wash and spin, will see your clothes beautifully washed.

Choosing the right water temperature

The care label on your clothes recommends which water temperature to use.  Here is a guide to help you decide -

Cold (20°C)
Ideal for fabrics that might shrink or fade in warm water and recommended for typical wash-and-wear items.
Warm (35°C)
Recommended for permanent press items including light to medium colours.
Hot (55°C)
Provides maximum cleaning for items that can stand hot water without losing colour or shrinking; especially baby clothes and nappies, heavily soiled work or sport outfits. Hot water is excellent for whites, sheets, towels and other household items.

Note:  For dark and black colours use cool water. Turn black clothes inside out before washing.

*always check you labels on Doona's, Blankets and throws - some of these can require more delicate wash cycles*

To minimise shrinking.....

  • Use cold or warm water.
  • Make sure cottons and knits are back in their original shape
  • Many knits and woven fabrics can shrink when washed. Allow for this when buying.

Sad Socks

Don't leave us your socks to make puppets with!

When you are using those lovely big Front loaders don't forget after you take your clothes out to check for socks and underwear that is stuck up against the bowl.  Spin the bowl around with your hand to check.   We are getting quite a collection out the back!  :/

Tips for washing your Doona's

Tips for washing your Doona's

Now we have these fabulous BIG FAST Frontloaders....and that chill has hit brrrrrr Brisbane tonight, it is a perfect time to wash and freshen up the winter warmers and bedding.

We recommend that you can wash a Double, Queen or King Doona, King/Queen blankets or thick underlays/mattress protectors in the Triple Load Frontloader.  You can fit a Single or 'thin' double/queen in the Double Load Frontloader.

**Please do NOT try to cram doona's or big bulky blankets, mattress protectors in to the Top Loaders!!   They will not wash properly and you will end up with a doona full of detergent.  :/

It is best if you wash Doona's on there own and not mixed with other clothing or towels.  The fillings of Doona's are thick and soak up alot of water.  If you fill the Frontloader as you would for normal clothes washing, it will all just expand to fill the bowl and the water will not be able to circulate around the items.  This means that you will not get the 'best' cleanest wash.

~Check your doona instructions as to what temperature to set the wash, and if they can be placed in dryers~

Hope this helps you get the best results for your winter warmers.
