6 Lessons learned from going to the Laundromat.
Have you had your home washer go on the blink? Are your waiting for parts, or saving for a new machine? Here is 6 great reasons to find your blessings about the inconvenience of having your home washer or dryer out of order. Below are the 6 great reasons you can turn this annoying breakdown in to a plus.
1. Doing laundry at the Laundromat means it gets done faster!

1. Doing laundry at the Laundromat means it gets done faster!
- You can put 2 or 3 loads in to our BIG express front loaders and get it done in 23 minutes, then our BIG Dryers can hold all those 2 - 3 baskets of washing. Better than half the day it takes at home.
- Being so close to the shopping hub of Indooroopilly and Taringa, you could put your laundry in and pop out to get your tyres changed, drop off the kids, get a facial at Smooth @ Taringa in our centre or pop the pooch in from a clipping.
- Never been to our Laundromat? Well you could discover all the great businesses right next door to us, our great neighbouring Abode Cafe, The Corner Store, The LITTLE Art Studio or Mosaic Eductation Tutors. Plus, you will be supporting local small business people.
- Your days are busy, doing it at home means guilt enters your head and you will feel the need to finish all those chores. That one hour at our laundromat means 'YOU' time. Time to read a book, use our WiFi, enjoy a coffee from Abode Cafe or watch the Television. Just plain simple 'chill time'
- We have many regulars who love the social side of coming to our laundromat. New friends made, chatting with students, locals or discussing those broken machines at home! It's about getting tips on how to use the machines or giving tips. Even sometimes running in to old friends.
- Sometimes we all get caught up in our lives...those pressing issues, bills, chores and pressures. Sometimes coming to a laundromat, you can take a breathe and realise how lucky we all are - running water, electricity, appliances to make our lives easier (even if they do occasionally break down) and the chance to find and go to a local laundromat to solve the problem. Sometimes we all need that one hour to let ourselves rest and appreciate.

What is best? Frontloaders or Toploaders?
We get asked quite often, what is best Front loader or Top loader washers? Many people have personal preferences. Both have Pro's and Con's.
We personally love washing our own clothes in the Front loaders. Front loaders are gentler on your clothes, with no agitator for smalls and delicates to get tangled around. They require less detergent, due to their tumbling motion that cleans the clothes more efficiently. Less is more, with detergents for best and softest results. One of the biggest advantages of front
loader machines is that they use much less water than top loaders – up
to 70% less. Our *express* Dexter front loaders are
internationally renowned for their sump-free washer design and flexible
water usage settings. Compared to domestic
household machines, our Dexters use significantly less water. Our *express* Dexter machines are faster than our Top loading machines too, getting your washing done quicker and better. 23 minutes vs 35+ minutes in the Top Loaders.
Big Frontloaders are also the BEST for Doona's, blankets, curtains and quilts because of the large bowl with no agitator. They are also designed with the fastest spin cycle, so your clothes finish much drier than in the Top loader, saving you time and money in the Dexter Dryers. On the whole Front loaders provide a much more environmentally friendly laundry experience, quicker in and out time, better results and at less cost.
We hope this helps? At Indooroopilly Laundromat we offer both types of machines to suit your needs and likes. Also offering a great choice of price too. All our machines are modern designs and cleaned twice daily. And we never mind answering questions, so if you need to ask....please feel free to ring us and ask.

Washing Doona's - tips for great results!
We get asked a lot about how to best wash Doona's by customers in our Laundromat. So, here is a very popular prior tip from us about washing your Doona's. We hope it helps get those snuggly items ready for the cooler months!
Tips for washing your Doona's
As we have fabulous BIG FAST *express* Dexter frontloaders....and the chilly months are ahead of us. It is a perfect time to wash and freshen up the winter warmers and bedding.
We recommend: you can wash a Double, Queen or King Doona, King/Queen blankets or thick underlays/mattress protectors in the Triple Load Frontloaders. You can fit a Single or 'thin' double/queen in the Double Load Frontloaders.
Use our FREE eco laundry liquid, which is suitable for sensitive skin, it's earth friendly and Australian made and owned. It gives great results and you only need 1 capful. Remember "less is more" for best results with laundry detergent.
It is best if you wash Doona's on their own and not mixed with other clothing or towels. Depending on the fillings of your Doona a warm wash is recommended. Once the water soaks through they will condense and wash brilliantly in the *express* Dexters. Note - do not use to much detergent, less is more - for better results in these super fast spinning *express* Dexter frontloaders.
~Always check your doona instructions as to what temperature to set the wash, and if they can be placed in dryers~
Once in the Dryers start on a low temp and check it after a few minutes. If the outer covering is silky or shiny you may need to remove it after 8 minutes to make sure it does not overheat and 'pinch' the material. Cotton covers should be started on LOW heat and checked, if okay you can then test on Medium heat. You can stop our Dryers, check, close the door press the START button.
Hope this helps you get the best results for your winter warmers.
NOTE: **Please do NOT try to cram doona's or big bulky blankets, mattress protectors in to the Top Loaders!! They will not fit in properly, if they stick up above the agitator they will not get covered in water or wash through and you will end up with a doona full of detergent. :/

There is NO Laundry Fairy!
But our *express* Dexter machines get it done faster, better, easier.....
So if you have to do it, at least make it easier on yourself.
Dexter Express Machines, spin faster than anything else, meaning drier cleaner clothes at the end of the wash = LESS time needed in the dryer = saves you $$$$ and time!!

Getting ready for winter
ahhh isn't it nice to start to feel the crispness in the air in the mornings and evenings. The days are less muggy, the sun has a wee bit less sting and you may be starting to think about enjoying the coming cooler months. So let's get ready for another Brissie winter!!
Doona's, blankets, quilts, throws and snugglie's. Here are some handy tips for washing, drying and caring for your winter warmers. We hope these tips help.
Quilts: Quilts can be completely washable if they are made of a synthetic material or a cotton. You can wash a quilt in the cold water cycle of the washing machine, or if the label says you can wash on warm. If your quilt is made of silk, wool or another delicate material you need to dry clean the quilt to keep it looking good. When you are considering washing a quilt you need to consider what the quilt is stuffed with. If the quilt is stuffed with a wool the wool can shrink in water and pucker up when it is dry. So carefully check the Washing label.
Wool Blankets: The rule of thumb for all pure wool clothing and blankets is to wash in cold water and use a delicate cycle on the washer. Heat can and usually does shrink woollens, reducing them in size and ruining their appearance. Cold water and gentle washing will help keep your woollens in good condition. It is best not to dry wool items in dryers. If you have to use the LOW heat and check it after a few minutes to ensure it is not shrinking or being damaged by the heat. The old tip for drying wool is to lay it out on a flat surface in the sun.
Doona's: Most Doona's can be washed in warm water and they fit in to our BIG Triple load frontloaders. The fillings of Doona's are thick and soak up alot of water, you will need to use less detergent than for normal washes. Check your doona instructions as to what temperature to set the wash and dryers, as this will depend on what the filling is made from and what material is the cover. Silky material covers should be carefully dryed on LOW heat to ensure no crimping or burning. It is best if you wash Doona's on their own and not mixed with other clothing or towels. Feather Doona's can be dryed in our dryers on a low heat, it will help the feather fluff back up.
Modern Microfiber Blankets and Snugglies: There are so many beautiful soft microfiber winter blankets available now and they can be washed in a machine. Check the label first. Warm or cold wash, less detergent will be required with these materials. Generally microfibre dries FAST. So it may not need to go in to the dryer, just be hung out for a short time. If you do pop it in the dryer, use a Low heat and check after a few minutes.
Knitted throws: Be very careful with the speciality fluffy, hairy or silky throws - Read the label, it may require gentle hand wash only. Knitted throws should only be washed in cold water, gently. Hand made knits may tend to stretch in a wash, wash in frontloaders only to avoid them getting tangled with the agitator of a top loader. Dry on a LOW heat only for a short time. Or lay them out on a flat surface in the sun at home.
Which Machines? We recommend that you can wash a Double, Queen or King Doona, King/Queen blankets or thick underlays/mattress protectors in the Triple Load Frontloader. You can fit a Single or 'thin' double/queen in the Double Load Frontloader.
*Best Not try to cram doona's or big bulky blankets, mattress protectors in to the Top Loaders! They will not fit, be covered by water andwash properly. Which means you may end up with a doona full of detergent.
