Over Suds? Handy Tip!

So..... ever put too much detergent in to your wash?   At home or in the Laundry???   In modern machines, too much detergent in the wash can cause an Error Code - OVER SUDS.  The machine fills with suds and it can cause overflow and stoppage.

It's a pain, but thanks to the great people at Dexter, we know the trick to reduce the suds.  You have to be quick, but pop some Fabric Softener in to the machine and it will kill off the suds and allow the wash to continue.

This doesn't happen often at the Laundry, the *Express* machines are terrific at handling most things.  However if it does, we hope this tip helps.....when you are doing your laundry with us or at home.

How to wash stuffed animals!

Washing stuffed animals can be tricky.  Can they go in the washer or not?  Can you use regular detergent or do you have to use a specialty product?  Is my little one going to have a melt-down if I take the stuffed animal away long enough to wash it? (Hint: don’t wash those kinds of stuffed animals around nap time or bed time.)
There are many reasons you need to wash stuffed animals: the attack of the stomach bug, they can be dusty from sitting on a shelf, a little too much love from the owner or frequent washing for kiddos with allergies and asthma.
Stuffed animals are like clothes – the less you wash them, the longer they will look new.  After an animal has been washed that crisp, new look probably won’t be there.  But at least they’ll look clean!

You Can’t Wash Your Stuffed Animal in the Washing Machine if:
- They have a music box sewn inside
- They are extremely old and fragile
- They have items glued on – sequins, etc.  Glued-on eyes probably will survive a washing.
- They have delicate ‘clothing’ items on that can’t be removed (think glittery, net-type dresses or delicate little crowns or the like)
- They have small foam balls inside (like Beanie Babies) not batting.

1.  Before washing a stuffed animal, examine it carefully.  Are there parts that need to be removed first?  Any strings that need to be secured?
Stuffed animals are similar to pillows in that they wash much better if laundered in a machine that does not have an agitator.  Washing with an agitator tends to make the animal ball up due to the agitator displacing the batting.
After determining your stuffed animal can be washed, place it in a mesh laundry bag.  The mesh bag gives it an extra level of protection from snagging or being pummeled too much in the machine.

Always wash stuffed animals on the gentle/delicate cycle.  They just can’t tolerate a more aggressive washing that a ‘normal’ cycle would give.  You can use a warm or cool wash but steer clear of hot.  If items are glued on, the hot water might dissolve some of the glue.
After washing, remove from the bag and hang dry or use LOW/Gentle heat on dryer.   – even on low – could potentially melt glued on or plastic parts.  So PLEASE be careful and check within a couple of minutes and often.

Choose the right water temperature!

The care label on your clothes recommends which water temperature to use.  It is best to put items together that match these recommendations in one machine.

Cold (20°C) Ideal for fabrics that might shrink or fade in warm water and recommended for typical wash-and-wear items. A detergent like Cold Power liquid and powder is specially formulated for cold water washing.

Warm (35°C) Recommended for permanent press items including light to medium colours. A detergent like Dynamo liquid is suited for this temp.

Hot (55°C) Provides maximum cleaning for items that can stand hot water without losing colour or shrinking; especially baby clothes, heavily soiled work or sport outfits. Hot water is excellent for whites, sheets, towels and other household items.

***Notes:

For dark and black colours use cool water. Use a good quality detergent suited to colours.
Don't use too much detergent or fabric softener as it will over suds and leave a residue build up on your clothes - which will make them eventually feel less soft and fluffy.

Hope these tips help you enjoy your time at Indooroopilly Laundromat.

Wash, Dry, Fold

Wash, Dry, Fold.......
it can be easier than you think!

Our *Express* Dexter Frontloaders only take 23 mins (approx) to wash your clothes.  These machines are a savings master.   They need less detergent.  They use less water.  They take less time!!  $$$$ and time savings!!
The *Express* machines spin faster, so your clothes come out drier.  This means when you put them in our *Express* Dryers they won't take as long to dry.

~ One heaped basket of washing will only need approx $3  (24 mins) to dry.  That is with a mix of  cotton clothes, towels and normal clothes items.  If it is a basket of towels or heavy items like jeans/jackets, it may need $4  (32 mins) depending on the thickness of your towels.

While all this is happening you will be sitting in comfy chairs and you could be watching TV, reading a book or magazine (provided in store)  jump online (Free WiFi instore) or walk up to the corner grab a drink and sit in the sunny, green courtyard and enjoy the peaceful setting.
When you drying is finished, we have a LOVELY big fold table, so you can have it all folded and back in your basket...ready to head home!   Around about an hour and you are all done!!

Easy, fast, clean and quiet.......
Laundry has never been easier, so we hope to see you at Hillsdon Road soon.
